 Character Creation and  House Rules

For the most part, follow the character creation procedure outlined here, with exceptions listed below
  • All characters start at full HP at first level (IE maximum roll on their HD)
  • Simple Encumberance - Armor + Treasure weight not exceeding 1600 coins
  • Ascending Armor Class
  • Former Occupations from the Knock zine
  • Classes Allowed: - Character Builder here will work for any standard or advanced classes.
    • Core OSE Classes 
      • Dwarf
      • Elf
      • Halfling
      • Magic User
      • Cleric
      •  Fighter
      • Thief
    • Advanced OSE Classes - 
      • Acrobat - gymnastics, stealth, like Bey from Beastmaster 3
      • Assassin  - trained killer
      • Barbarian - survivalist and warrior
      • Bard - minstrels, warrior poets,
      • Drow - underground elves aligned with chaos and spiders
      • Druid
      • Duergar  - dwarves who live deep underground and have strange mental powers
      • Gnome  - little trickster magicians with a connection to nature
      • Half-Elf - part elf, part human, will eventually get a bit of magic
      • Half-Orc - typically outcasts with some orcish feature, sneaking and combat
      • Illusionist
      • Knight - mounted soldiers in service to a noble house
      • Paladin - holy warriors devoted to a lawful cause
      • Ranger - protector of woodlands, warrior, outdoorsperson
      • Svirfneblin - gnomes who live in deep caves beneath the earth with the ability to blend into stone, speak with earth spirits, detect construction faults and see well in the dark
    • The Following 3rd Party OSE Classes
      • Living Harness - Animated suit of armor, formerly belonging to a person of note
      • Ne'er Do Well - Lazy vagabond, survivor, trickster
      • Swarm Lord - Person who summons and controls a particular type of small creature
      • Mentalist - Mystic who uses mental power
      • Rat Catcher - See name
      • Noble - a human with noble blood, training and money
      • Monster Honcho - Person who tames big monsters
      • Fade - Almost Human, but capable of fading from notice
      • Kaldane - Six legged humanoid heads with magical abilities and a symbiotic relationship with a species of headless mounts called Rykor
      • Meat Mage - Wizards focused on ritual casting who gain their power from the excretion of White Worms, and may eventually transform into a white worm. Different spell list than Standard Magic Users
      • Human - human race as class (IE Finn the human from Adventure Time) 
      • Merchant - someone who helps people purchase things
      • Sage - someone who knows stuff
      • Worm Warden - protector of worms
      • Worm Witch - user of worm magic

      • The Prophet Of Ruin
      • The Beggar, 
      • The Errant Friar
    Rules Changes:
    • Variable Weapon Damage - weapon damage per this chart 
    • All Shields must be Splintered- sacrifice your shield to negate one blow 
    • Death and Dying Rules from Lamenations of the Flame Princess:
      • 0 HP = Unable to act - most likely unconscious
      • -1/-2 HP  - unconscious and seriously wounded - Save VS death, or take 1 point of damage next round.
      • -3 HP - mortally wounded, death will occur in 1-10 minutes
      • -4 HP - Instant death
    • Dual wielding rules here - https://ominosity.wordpress.com/2016/04/12/less-dice-more-decisions-house-rules-for-osr-and-dd/  - basically, if dual wielding, roll 1 attack at +1, choose which weapon hits
    • Critical Hits (20) = 2x damage
    • Spend gold off-time for XP - chance of complication (more detailed and weird table for spellcasters, will build more for others with time) 
    • Additional Spells
      •  Summoning from Lamentations of the Flame Princess - Free to Elves, Magic Users, Gnomes, Illusionists 
      • Additional spells to support 3rd party classes
